The Love of My Life (Book Review)

Writer: Harper T. WeathersHarper T. Weathers

Updated: Sep 1, 2022

Rosie Walsh is an excellent author. Nothing in this review is a spoiler.

This story between a husband and wife navigating exposure of a past they’d never imagine would surface was heartwarming because we had plenty of conflicts and twists without either of them having to be evil or jerks. Similar plots always seem to have one character that could just solve the problem with one damn conversation, and it drives me nuts, but Rosie Walsh makes this very believable either through timing or logic when secrets are kept or conversations put off.

I like that both the husband and the wife care and continue to try through their misbeliefs, betrayals and shocks. It’s hard to find a thriller where no one is batshit crazy or totally off their rocker for the insanity to ensue. These characters are believably normal without being boring and predictable. Even the twists don’t require farfetched ideas to flip the story in a different direction and surprise you.

As a writer, “soon” to be published author (gotta put into the universe what you want are planning for right?)… anyway… I love the use of dual POV as well as a 3rd character’s journal entries sneaking in without the author feeling the need to include them as a live POV. I have a similar idea for my own book, but in the form of texts messages. Excellent to see how a pro integrated this in.

Subjects that appear in the book: Adoption from four different angles. Marriage. Post-natal psychosis. Supportive marriages. Forgiveness. Attempted Suicide (not graphic)
